From the Winery:

Planted in 1968 by Al and Boots Brounstein on light, fluffy, ashy soil, the Volcanic Hill Vineyard comprises approximately 8 acres of the Estate.  Volcanic Hill is a south-facing hillside vineyard. The consistency of the gray soil is that of light, fluffy, volcanic ash, originally deposited from the eruption of Mt. Konocti eight million years ago. Sitting in one of the estate’s warmer microclimates, the site typically produces Diamond Creek’s most powerful and long-lived wine, typically the third wine to be tasted in the line-up of Diamond Creek’s four Cabernet Sauvignons.

Winemaker Notes: Volcanic Hill is a full-bodied Cabernet with ripe berry fruit, smoky richness, scented earth and elegant tannins that make the wine alluring in youth but eminently age-worth

Reviews:

98+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Volcanic Hill is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5% Merlot, 8.7% Malbec and 2.8% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts with vibrant scents of wild blueberries, chocolate-covered cherries and boysenberries with hints of sassafras, fragrant earth, vanilla pod and underbrush, plus a waft of crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers fantastic purity and depth, offering firm, grainy tannin's to support the bags of earth-laced black fruits, finishing long and mineral laced."
